The funding for this project is provided by US Trade and Development Agency. DORS International, a US company, was selected to provide consulting assistance and prepare for the technical and financial aspects of the Program.
Ambassador Judith Garber in her address emphasized the project’s significance in strengthening relations between the USA and Latvia:
“The United States and Latvia are recognized as strong partners in political and military issues, but our economic relationship is just as important. US-Latvian business cooperation is a key part of our relationship, and our government wants to encourage even more. We are here to celebrate a prominent example of the kind of economic benefits we can achieve when we work together.”
The ceremony was also attended by Arturs Kokars, Chairman of the Board of the State Stock Company “Latvijas gaisa satiksme”, Arnis Muiznieks, Head of Air Transport Department of the Ministry of Transport, Maris Gorodcovs, Director of the Civil Aviation Agency, and Joe Dorfler, General Manager of the DORS International.
During the following twelve months within the framework of the Air Traffic Management System Advanced Modernization Program a survey and assessment of the Latvia’s regional airports operation will be carried out, a future development scenario for air traffic management centre and Riga airport air traffic control tower will be adressed, and until 2018 a modernization plan of the air traffic management system will be developed providing for the use of next generation communications, navigation, surveillance and air traffic management systems and services.
“This is a real opportunity to effectively manage government resources and allow us to reduce the overall costs of air transport services for both businesses and pleasure thereby providing competitive advantages for Latvia,” stated Mr. Arturs Kokars.
The main task of the State Stock Company “Latvijas gaisa satiksme” is to provide all air space users with air navigation services. Under market economy conditions, the work of LGS is client oriented and rendered to all users according to international standards for services of equal quality.
