Meteorological Division is responsible for supply of meteorological information to ATC Centre and other users of Latvian air space to ensure safe, regular and efficient air traffic.
In line with the above said Meteorological Division is responsible for:
- Provision of meteorological observations in all Latvian aerodromes,
- VHF broadcast of meteorological information (ATIS/VOLMET),
- collection and distribution of aviation meteorological information,
- maintenance of automatic meteorological observation systems in aerodromes,
- analysis of regional tendencies in aviation meteorology and support of regional cooperation,
- implementation of new procedures and technologies for meteorological information services for ATCC and other users of Latvian air space,
- streamline of current procedures and methods for technical maintenance of meteorological equipment and systems.
Meteorological Division is also responsible for:
- development and implementation of projects for updated automatic meteorological systems,
- participation in international work groups,
- inspection of technical requirements and specifications for aviation meteorology,
- personnel training and in-service guidance (training of meteorological observers).
