LGS visited by European Coordinator for the Baltic Sea–Black Sea–Aegean Sea Transport Corridor, Mario Mauro

On 1 December, the European Coordinator for the Baltic, Black and Aegean Seas Transport Corridor, Mario Mauro, visited Riga on a working visit. The purpose of the visit was to gain an insight into the current developments in the transport sector of the corridor included in the European Transport Network (TEN-T) in Latvia.During the meeting, the guest also familiarised himself with the operations of LGS and, together with the Chairman of the Board of LGS, Dāvids Tauriņš, discussed topical issues in the field of air traffic management, paying particular attention to recent events and the security situation in the region.Mr Mauro received information on the progress of the LGS renovation and development project (REACT), which, as a project promoting military mobility, is co-financed by the European Union from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) in the amount of more than €26.2 million.As a result of the project implementation, dual-use air traffic management infrastructure will be developed and its operational capacity increased.The guest was interested in Latvia’s experience in civil-military cooperation in the field of air navigation, which can serve as a positive example for other countries. The participants of the meeting also touched upon the issue of air traffic management provision and workforce mobility within the framework of the Single European Sky initiative.
