Transport Minister Visits Construction Site of the New Air Traffic Control Tower
To familiarise himself with the situation at the company and the most important modernisation projects of SJSC “Latvijas gaisa satiksme” (LGS), on 14 May the Minister of Transport of the Republic of Latvia, Atis Švinka, visited LGS.
LGS Chairman of the Board Dāvids Tauriņš presented the current situation at the company to the minister and introduced him to the main projects being implemented. Particular attention was given to the REACT (Riga Enhanced ATM Infrastructure Development) project — the construction of the new air traffic control tower and administrative building — which will further modernise the air traffic management infrastructure and adapt it for both civil and military purposes. Tauriņš emphasised that construction is proceeding according to the approved schedule.
Following the presentation, the minister and LGS management discussed a number of current issues in greater detail.
A. Švinka also visited the existing LGS air traffic control tower and the construction site of the new tower. The minister stressed: “The REACT project, or the construction of the new tower, is one of the most significant projects being implemented by the companies under the Ministry of Transport. What I saw today gives me confidence that this facility will be completed on schedule and will strengthen LGS’s position and competitiveness as one of the most modern air navigation service providers in Europe, while further improving flight safety.”
In turn, D. Tauriņš expressed gratitude to the ministry for its support in resolving current issues.
