About LGS

State joint stock company “Latvijas gaisa satiksme” (LGS) was founded on 21 October 1991 as the national air navigation service provider. On 12 June 1997 LGS changed its legal status becoming a state joint stock company.

LGS works within the aviation subsector of the transport sector, which is an area of national strategic importance; the company provides services that are a crucial element within the implementation of sectoral policy. It has also been deemed a site of national economic importance. In accordance with Section 17 of the Law on the Completion of Privatisation of State and Local Government Property and Use of Privatisation Certificates, the shares of LGS cannot be privatised or disposed.

The primary objective of operations of LGS is not profit, but rather ensuring efficient operations in line with international requirements and applicable regulations.

The capital shares of LGS (100 %) are held by the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Latvia. The supervisory body of the company is a Council consisting of three members. The current members of the Council are Dins Merirands, Andris Ozoliņš and Aleksandrs Gusevs.

The day-to-day management of the company is entrusted to the Board, which works in accordance with legislation, company by-laws and shareholder decisions. The Board manages the work of the company in accordance with international and national law, internationals standards, recommendations and documents issued by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

The Chairman of the Board of LGS is Dāvids Tauriņš, who is also responsible for the Technical Support Department.

Board Member Ivars Sviridovs is in charge of the Strategic Planning and Administrative Support Department and the Quality Assurance Department.

Board Member Aivars Pūcītis oversees the work of the Air Traffic Control Department.
