Safety – Our Main Priority

Safety in the aviation industry is the main priority on which all processes of SJSC “Latvijas Gaisa Satiksme” (LGS) are based. Safe air traffic management is a prerequisite for safe flights, and to ensure this, LGS has established, maintains, and systematically improves its Safety Management System (SMS) in accordance with ICAO Annex 19 and Regulation (EU) 2018/1139. The Safety Management System is the organization’s core system, applying a systematic, risk-based approach. It ensures that all elements—people, technology, infrastructure, equipment, and procedures—work together to identify and mitigate risks, analyze them, and implement measures to maintain and improve safety levels, aiming to minimize and prevent accidents.
LGS chairman of the board / accountable manager has approved a safety policy aligned with international regulations, which includes resource provision, service continuity, regulatory compliance, safety performance monitoring, continuous improvement, and fostering a Just Culture, including systematic monitoring of employee stress and fatigue to ensure safe and uninterrupted air traffic management and related services.

- Safety policy and objectives with defined responsibilities at all organizational levels;
- Hazard identification and risk assessment before implementing changes and in daily operations;
- Safety assurance and monitoring using safety indicators and regular oversight;
- Incident reporting and investigation to learn from experience and prevent recurrence;
- Continuous improvement based on data, analysis, and best international practices.
