Strict restrictions instated at LGS to prevent spread of Covid-19

At the start of the Covid-19 pandemic in the spring of 2020 state joint stock company “Latvijas gaisa satiksme” (LGS) immediately implemented strict epidemiological safety measures and precautions to take care of the health of its staff and safeguard the continuous functioning of air traffic control services.
Hygienic and epidemiological safety measures have been introduced at the company in line with Cabinet Regulation No. 360 of 9 June 2020 “Epidemiological Safety Measures for the Containment of the Spread of COVID-19 Infection”, the recommendations of the Latvian Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, and the measures to be implemented have also been detailed in a range of LGS internal documents.
These place an obligation on all employees to monitor their health condition, not come into work with symptoms of upper respiratory infection, wash/disinfect hands, minimize personal interaction with colleagues, strictly abide by the two meter physical distancing rule if there are two or more people in the room, always wear a face mask, visit other structural units only if absolutely necessary, organise meetings remotely if possible, and work remotely if the specifics of their duties allow for it. The documents also stipulate other measures to be implemented to reduce the risk of infection.
As of the spring of 2020 all LGS employees undergo a temperature check at the entrance of the company.
In addition, LGS has also provided all staff members with face masks, and placed disinfectant dispensers throughout the premises. In line with the instructions issued by the Latvian Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, a disinfection and cleaning schedule has been elaborated with special attention given to the air traffic controllers’ work area and operative shift workers’ work area. Safety barriers have been set up at dispatcher work places. Zones have been established within the premises of LGS where only the staff of a specific structural unit are allowed to be present.
The company has compiled and submitted to the competent authorities a list of LGS staff positions who need to be prioritised in the vaccination process.
A procedure entitled “Employee Action Plan During the Spread of Covid-19” has been elaborated.
Employees of LGS are regularly reminded about the necessary precautions and the need to adhere to the epidemiological safety requirements in force nationally and at company level. Employees are urged to be conscientious, keep themselves and their colleagues safe so as to avoid the dangerous infection, be able to work productively and ensure the company’s ability to continuously provide air traffic control services.
