LGS taking part in project through which innovative aircraft will be able to fly throughout the whole airspace

01 Oct 2024

As of last year, state joint stock company “Latvijas gaisa satiksme” has been taking part in the implementation of OperA, a project co-funded by the HORIZON EUROPE program through the European public-private partnership SESAR.

The aim of the project is to ensure environmental sustainability as compared to other alternative means of transport by optimizing flight routes to reduce the noise footprint and improve aircraft energy consumption. In the framework of the OperA project, technologies and procedures will be developed to accommodate innovative electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft in all classes of airspace and carry passengers and cargo.

All the project participants are currently actively involved in preparing for the implementation of the project.

It must be noted that one solution to be developed in the framework of the project is aimed at providing unmanned cargo aircraft operations on the route Palanga – Liepāja – Palanga. A demonstration of the solution is planned for August 2025.
